Alana DeLong, M.L.A. LEGISLATURE REPORT

Alana DeLong, M.L.A.

Alana DeLong, M.L.A.

We received a visit from Alana DeLong at our last Crestmont Community Association board meeting (The third Wednesday of every month at the Crestmont Hall starting at 7pm) and she had a lot of great information to share with some good advice and answers to our questions.  We want to pass along a link to the Legislature Report we received from her in case you have not yet seen it.  As a Crestmont or Valley Ridge resident, you may find some of it interesting.

Legislature Report

There are secret hidden treasures all over the world!

For over 10 years, a community of treasure hunters has silently been growing throughout the world.  “What kind of treasure” you ask?  Many things, wonderful things.  This exciting idea is called Geocaching and it is gaining in popularity with the large number of smart phones with GPS capability available now-a-days.

Woman Found GeocacheGeocaching is a really fun form of high-tech scavenger hunt.  You log on to a website (http://www.geocaching.com) and create an account for no cost.  You can search for a location on earth and it will come back with the geographic locations of all the geocaches in that area.  A search on Crestmont shows that there are 15 within 1 mile of the community with a handful right in our community. Once you pick a geocache that interests you, punch the coordinates into your GPS/Smart Phone, and head out to find it.

This is a fun hobby that the whole family can do, and it gets  you all out of the house and being active.  Some of the geocaches are easy to find and some are very difficult.  Many people are very creative and have custom built a secret container for a log that you can sign to show that you found the geocache.  You are also welcome to create a new geocache of your own and add it to the website for others to find.

Get Involved!

The Crestmont Community Assocation has regular Board Meetings on the third Thursday of every month. You are welcome to attend the board meetings and are encouraged to volunteer with the organization. Please send an email to volunteer@crestmontcommunity.org if you would like to attend a board meeting, or if you would like to become a volunteer.

Raise Your Hand

We will be holding our Annual General Meeting on Wednesday March 16th, from 7pm – 9pm and we urge you to come out and support the organization. All board positions are open and it will be great to have some fresh ideas to help take the organization into it’s second year of formal operation.

Family Game Night a Success

Family Game Night

Children Play Games While Adults Chat

Our first Crestmont Community Association Family Game Night was well attended and we received some excellent feedback.  The Moms and Dads took the opportunity to network and meet some of their neighbors while the kids enjoyed some fun and challenging games like “Hamburger” and “Go Monkey”.

Special thanks to the Crestmont Community Association board members who organized the event and were on hand to help out, play games and meet fellow residents.  Special thanks to our VP, Myron, who brought all the fun games for everyone to play.

We hope to see you out next time at the next Crestmont Community Association event.  Details will be posted on our website as soon as they are available.

Crestmont Community Association Compiled Feedback

ASP MapYour Crestmont Community Association has solicited feedback from our community residents with the intent to put together a response back to the City of Calgary regarding their recently released “Draft West View Area Structure Plan (ASP)“.  The draft ASP is the City of Calgary’s vision for the future development of the land located to the immediate west of Crestmont and Valley Ridge.

The link below is a draft PDF version of the feedback that we intend to formally submit on behalf of the Crestmont Community residents.  Please take a moment to review our compiled information and if you have not already, read the Draft West View Area Structure Plan from the City and put together your own response.  The more feedback that the City receives, the more likely our voices will be heard.

You will have to hurry as you only have until November 1st to submit your feedback.
