Annual Crestmont Cleanup June 26

Hard working familyIt is that time of year again on June 26th, 2016 (9am – 1:30pm) when all of Crestmont gets out to clean up their yards, garages, and basements and gathers up the debris and garbage to bring down to the Crestmont Hall where the City of Calgary has packer trucks waiting.  GEEP will also have bins for electronics and the Crestmont Community Association will have food, coffee and snacks.

Make it a fun day for your family!  We will have pick-up sticks, vests, gloves and garbage bags at the hall so you can take your family out into the neighbourhood green spaces to pick up garbage and debris that blow in from the wind.

This is a FREE event for everyone, although we encourage you to get or renew your Crestmont Community Association Membership if you have not already done so.

Items accepted include:

  • furniture decor items
  • yard waste & grass clippings
  • materials from minor repair work
  • general garbage
  • mattresses (although we STRONGLY encourage you to recycle your used mattress instead!)
  • household electronics
  • metal
  • tires
  • barbecues

Items NOT accepted:

  • chemical products or containers
  • paint
  • antifreeze
  • oil or oil filters
  • car batteries
  • propane tanks

Recycle IconWe will also set up a free table for items that are still in good condition that you no longer wish to keep. Someone else in the community may be able to use it. It’s all about recycling items in a safe manner.

This is a family friendly event and a good way to teach our children the value of keeping all our spaces clean and to feel like they can contribute in a positive way by giving back to their community.

Please check back here for any updates / changes prior to June 26th.

The party will be on the west side of the storm water pond at the end of the 500 block of Cresthaven Place (see map above).  There will be Spolumbo’s Sausages and buns, drinks, prizes, games and fun for all ages.  Just look for the big bouncy house and all the happy people enjoying the company of their neighbours.

Please R.S.V.P. for this event as we would like to make sure there is enough food etc.

Community Safety Presentation

Just say NO to CRIMEHey Crestmont, did you know we have our very own Police Constable assigned to our neighbourhood ?

On May 10th, 7pm at the Crestmont Hall Constable Damian Price will be in Crestmont presenting an informative session on how to keep our community safe.

Crestmont is a quiet neighbourhood, however if you view the Calgary Police Service’s Crimes Web Mapping Application there have been 21 incidents of crime in our area in the last 6 months.  Keep in mind that those are only the crimes that have been reported.  Crestmont homeowners should learn how to effectively report crime and learn to be a good neighbor so we can all help support the residents of this wonderful community.

I hope you can make the time to come down to the Crestmont Hall on May 10th to meet your neighbors, Constable Price and members of the Crestmont Community Association board.  We look forward to meeting you.

WE NEED YOU!

Finger Pointing at ViewerJust a reminder that tomorrow (April 8th) at 7:00pm at the Crestmont Hall is the Annual General Meeting for your Crestmont Community Association and we need your support.

There are a number of important items to discuss including changes to our bylaws, area development updates and news regarding the Crestmont community and events that we are planning for 2016.

We will also have coffee and snacks to keep your tummy happy.

Please come out and show your support.  Membership sales can be processed at the hall if you don’t already have yours or need to renew.

Grab your neighbours and come on down.

Thanks HOA for Hitmen Fun!

The Crestmont HOA arranged for bus transportation and cheap tickets to a Calgary Hitmen game on March 13th. After the game attendees were invited to a private meet & greet event with Hitmen player #2 Jake Bean.

It was a fun event and on behalf of all those who attended, thank you to the HOA and Danielle for setting this up for us.

Here are a few photos of the event…

News for Crestmont

New Board History Page

We have just added a Board History page on our website to acknowledge all the volunteer directors and officers that have kept the association operational since 2009.  If you were on the board as a director but do not see your name, please let us know.

Crestmont Invited to Hitmen Game

As you may have heard, the entire Crestmont community has been invited to attend the Hitmen game on March 13th at 4:00pm.  The Crestmont Homeowner’s Association will be providing transportation to and from the game and will be having a pre-game party at the Crestmont Hall.  For more information check out the Crestmont Hall website

The NEW Crestmont Kids Council

Crestmont Kids CouncilIt is time that the children of Crestmont had their own voice!  The CCA is looking to put together a Crestmont Kids Council (CKC) to be formed by volunteers in the community ages 13 to 17 years old.  This will be a working board and the president of the Kids Council will have a non-voting seat on the regular CCA board and attend our meetings to keep the communication between the CCA board and the CKC open and flowing.

The CKC will be expected to assemble their own, mission statement, bylaws, budget, board positions, and monthly meetings.  They will also be welcome to help plan and execute the kids-related events happening in Crestmont, including the Kids Day and Children’s Halloween Party.  They may also come up with some of their own events and initiatives for kids in the community.

This is a wonderful experience and character building opportunity for the bright and focused children of our great community.  This is a serious commitment and the CKC will be self-sustaining and independent.  It is not a playgroup or babysitting service, but a serious team who will be charged with making Crestmont even better for it’s younger residents.

Any Crestmont Residents in the 13 to 17 age range who are interested can contact the CCA President (or their parents can) via the email address info@crestmontcommunity.org.

Updated our Membership Application page

Due to a major system upgrade of one of our service providers we lost our membership application functionality back in May 2015. After pursuing a number of options we have come up with an interim solution that should get things back on track for memberships.

If your membership is due, please visit our “Become A Member” page and fill out the form. The online payment feature using PayPal is still the same, however it is now disconnected from the membership form.

If you have any problems or questions, please do not hesitate to Contact Us for assistance.

Thanks,
Your friendly Crestmont Community Association
