Crestmont Kids Day Rocked!

Crestmont Kids Day Mini GolfCrestmont Kids day was forced inside by mother nature, but that didn’t stop the fun. A special thanks to all who helped out with planning, setup and teardown of the event. Also thank you to Const. Damian Price, Const. Dylan Harris and Simon the Safety Bear. Thank you to the Al Azhar Shriners for their epic BBQ trailer to heat up our Spolumbos sausages and to the Calgary Fire Dept. for stopping by with their impressive trucks and firefighters that made the kids smile from ear to ear. Also a huge thank you to Qualico Communities for their generous donation that helped us make this day possible. Thank you to the City of Calgary who is alway such a great supporter and provided the mini-golf, giant Jenga blocks and other games. Finally, thank you to our members and guests for supporting the CCA and renewing your membership each year. Without your support it would be much more difficult for us to do what we do. Here are some photos from the day:

City of Calgary Bylaw Changes Survey

The Community Standards Bylaw promotes good neighbour relationships through regulation of neighbourhood nuisances like fire pit use, noise, weeds and grass, and untidy properties.

Over the past year, the City of Calgary has conducted a review of this bylaw to ensure that it continues to meet the needs of Calgarians.  The review found that while most of the Community Standards Bylaw meets citizen needs and effectively addresses neighbourhood issues, there are some areas of the bylaw that can be improved.

A number of bylaw changes are being considered and we would like your feedback on these changes, you can find the survey here.  Your input is greatly appreciated and it will be used to help make decisions on the proposed amendments to the Community Standards Bylaw that will be provided to Council later this year.

Annual Crestmont Cleanup June 26

Hard working familyIt is that time of year again on June 26th, 2016 (9am – 1:30pm) when all of Crestmont gets out to clean up their yards, garages, and basements and gathers up the debris and garbage to bring down to the Crestmont Hall where the City of Calgary has packer trucks waiting.  GEEP will also have bins for electronics and the Crestmont Community Association will have food, coffee and snacks.

Make it a fun day for your family!  We will have pick-up sticks, vests, gloves and garbage bags at the hall so you can take your family out into the neighbourhood green spaces to pick up garbage and debris that blow in from the wind.

This is a FREE event for everyone, although we encourage you to get or renew your Crestmont Community Association Membership if you have not already done so.

Items accepted include:

  • furniture decor items
  • yard waste & grass clippings
  • materials from minor repair work
  • general garbage
  • mattresses (although we STRONGLY encourage you to recycle your used mattress instead!)
  • household electronics
  • metal
  • tires
  • barbecues

Items NOT accepted:

  • chemical products or containers
  • paint
  • antifreeze
  • oil or oil filters
  • car batteries
  • propane tanks

Recycle IconWe will also set up a free table for items that are still in good condition that you no longer wish to keep. Someone else in the community may be able to use it. It’s all about recycling items in a safe manner.

This is a family friendly event and a good way to teach our children the value of keeping all our spaces clean and to feel like they can contribute in a positive way by giving back to their community.

Please check back here for any updates / changes prior to June 26th.

CCA & VRCA Multi-Community Garage Sale on May 28th

Stuff for SaleHave you ever noticed that your junk is “stuff” and everyone else’s stuff is “junk”?  Well get the stuff that you no longer need, and instead of making it into actual junk, sell it to someone else so it can be their stuff instead!

On May 28th, the Crestmont Community Association is joining forces with the Valley Ridge Community Association to put together a MASSIVE multi-community garage sale.  The garage sale will run from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm and will be advertised in the Calgary Herald, the Valley Breeze and the Crestmont Courier.

Maps of both communities with all participating homes will be made available prior to the garage sale at the Crestmont Hall as well as the Valley Ridge gas station, pharmacy, liquor store, Van Gogh’s, and Kijiji. To have your home added to the list, and make some money on your spring cleaning, please visit www.crestmontcommunity.org/events-calendar/garage-sale-application/. You can add your address and a brief description of what you are selling.

This event is FREE to Crestmont Community Association members and $5 for non-members. Memberships are always available through our website at www.crestmontcommunity.org/become-a-member/
